The accounting and audit professions have been reeling globally under allegations of lack of independence and/or sub-standard audits resulting in a number of heavy fines. KPMG in South Africa has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons and the spectacular implosion of Steinhoff has added fuel to the fire. In the UK matters came to a head with the collapse of Carillion and the subsequent recommendations of House of Commons' committees. Allegations of conflicts of interest resulting from audit firms providing consulting services have led to calls for the 'audit only' firms. The jury is still out, but something must give.

The following will be discussed during this webinar:

Context - UK, South Africa, International

Regulatory Pressure and direction

Déjà vu

Profession's response

'Quo Vadis'
