Anthony Norton is one of South Africa’s leading competition lawyers. Prior to co-founding Nortons Inc. Anthony was formerly the Head of the Competition Law Department at Webber Wentzel. His principal areas of practice are South African and African competition law. In particular, merger control, joint ventures, cartel investigations, prohibited practices, advice in relation to horizontal and vertical practices, abuse of a dominant position and general competition litigation before the South African courts and competition authorities. He was the first South African Competition Law Practitioner to appear before the South African Competition Appeal Court.

Anthony’s expertise in white collar crime law is highly regarded, and he has recently been involved in advising clients in the following high profile white-collar crime cases.

  • Advising AllPay  (a subsidiary of Absa Bank) on its review of the Social Grants tender;

Anthony has several accolades from well-known publications which include: inaugural edition of Best Lawyers: South Africa in the area of Antitrust. Practical Law Company's Competition Handbook 2006 and 2008 lists Anthony as a leader in the Competition field. Anthony has been recognised as a leader in the field of Competition and Antitrust by Chambers Global 2007-8 and 2010. Global Counsel's Handbook for both 2003 and 2004 voted Anthony as South Africa’s leading competition lawyer and nominated him as one of the “Top 40 Under 40”competition lawyers worldwide.
